Lewis Hamilton was al erg vaak genomineerd voor de award maar het is de eerste keer dat hij de award ook daadwerkelijk krijgt. Opvallend is dat Lewis Hamilton en Lionel Messi evenveel stemmen achter hun naam kregen en de award dus allebei krijgen.
